Licence Information

There are two licences that are relevant for AI Sandbox, the GPLv3 and the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International Public License.

Sandbox AI and The GPL licence.

The main application (and its source code) is licenced under the GPLv3 licence, the full text of which can be found here. As a summary, the GPL licence:

• Gives you the freedom to run, study, share and update the software.
• Forces you to release any changes to the software under a similar licence.
• Prevents you for turning the AI Sandbox software into a commercial product.

We’ve chosen to do this, as we believe this is the licence that most accurately reflects the original goal of AI Sandbox; which is to help users get started with AI.

Graphics Packs and the Creative Commons licence.

In addition to the code, AI Sandbox uses graphics licenced from external developers. As we don’t own the copyright to these assets, we can’t release them as part of a GPL project.

So in order to give you the best experience, the main application includes a set of basic ‘home-grown’ images and the higher quality artwork is distributed as a separate file under a separate licence (the platform specific installers contain both sets of files).

This graphics pack is licenced with the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International Public License, the full text of which is here, but can be summarised as:

• You can download, copy and distribute the file.
• You may not take the assets in the file and use them in your own projects (making a derivative work).
• You may not sell the file or use it for commercial purposes.

Your code and video output

For the sake of clarity, these licences govern how the application, source code and graphics can be distributed. Any AI you write using the sandbox, or any screenshots / video you make of your AI running is entirely owned by you. So this means you can:

• Write an AI (using AI Sandbox to train against), then sell it.
• Take a screencast (or output video) and upload it to YouTube.
• Use AI Sandbox to create your own AI tutorial.
